Certification Opportunities

September Seminar to Feature Variety of Water Conditioning Topics
Problem water, arsenic, resin, chloride discharge, the state of the salt industry and social networking are topics that will be part of the MWQA's one-day seminar scheduled for Tuesday, September 14. The event is scheduled for the Holiday Inn located in Lakeville, Minn. The MWQA Board is in the process of securing speakers to talk on the topics listed above, and also to secure seat time credit through the national WQA for currently certified individuals. The event will begin at 9 a.m. and includes various speakers in the morning, breaks, a buffet lunch, speakers throughout the afternoon, and will wrap up at 5 p.m. A limited number of sleeping rooms are available on September 13 and 14 for those who wish to come in the night before, or stay an extra night in the Minneapolis area. The MWQA Board considered a long list of potential topics before deciding on what to present at the seminar Currently plans are underway to hold seminars on the following topics:
- Chloride discharge from water conditioning systems.
- State of the salt industry.
- Arsenic and its effects on private wells.
- Social networking—how to use Facebook and other web-based networking programs to build your business. Also discussed will be liability and legal issues.
- Problem water—bring your questions!
- Resin.
Watch for registration forms for the seminar to be posted on the MWQA's website. We'll also mail them to our members. Set aside the date now and plan to attend this informative, industry-related seminar!
Applications Available in July
Applications for fall Water Conditioning License Exams in Minnesota will be available in August. Examinations for licensure are conducted twice a year (March and September). Applications for the September exam will be accepted after July 1, but in no case later than Aug. 15. Notifications will be sent to applicants one to two weeks after the deadline.
Important information related to filling in each license exam application is provided on the application form. Do not submit the application unless you have all the information that is required. If the agency does not receive all the required information by the due date, your application for exams will be denied.

Examination day requirements and limitations:
- Please bring the exam notification
- Bring a Minnesota driver's license or state-issued identification card with photo
- DO NOT BRING pencils, ruler and calculator (DLI will provide)
- DO NOT BRING plumbing code book (DLI will provide appropriate code book excerpts for open book portion of exams)
- BANNED FROM THE TESTING AREA: cell phones, personal code books and exam prep materials
- Applicants should arrive at the examination site by 7:45 a.m.
- Applicants must bring exam notification letter
- Applicants must show a driver's license or state-issued identification card with photo
- Examinations are allotted five-and-a-half (5 1/2) hours to complete.
- Food and drink are permitted during the examination
- Once the testing starts, attendees may not leave the testing area until the exam is turned in.
